King developed Crash Bandicoot: On the Run!
On the Run! was a mobile endless runner created and published by King under a license from Activision. The project brought Crash and Coco to Android and iOS, adapting the familiar running, jumping, spinning, crate-breaking, and enemy-defeating formula for touch controls and procedurally generated courses.
King’s development team aimed to make the game feel connected to the wider Crash universe rather than presenting it as a generic runner. The game included locations, villains, costumes, and characters drawn from multiple eras of the franchise. Its creative direction also emphasized exploration and variety, while collectible ingredients were used to craft weapons and other equipment.
The title was initially tested in limited release under the tentative name Crash Bandicoot Mobile. It later launched worldwide in 2021 and became a major mobile success, although critics commonly raised concerns about repetition, grinding, and microtransactions. The game was discontinued in 2023, when its servers were shut down and it became unplayable. Tose, Dimps, and Beenox are associated with other game-development projects, but none is the canonical developer of On the Run!.
