Hasbro created the Star Wars Transformers crossover toy line.
The line combined characters and vehicles from Star Wars with the transforming-robot concept associated with Transformers. Products could change between a Star Wars vehicle form and a robot form inspired by that vehicle or its character.
The crossover reflected Hasbro’s ownership of both major toy properties. Instead of simply reproducing a movie vehicle, the designs reinterpreted famous Star Wars machines through Transformers engineering and styling.
The range is sometimes confused with Kenner’s earlier Star Wars products because Kenner originally established the franchise’s action-figure business. Kenner, however, became part of Hasbro, and the Star Wars Transformers crossover was a Hasbro-era product. Its appeal came from combining two recognizable merchandise systems in one toy.
