Which co-founder of AC/DC died in November 2017?
Answer
Malcolm Young
Answer
Malcolm Young
Malcolm Young was the AC/DC co-founder who died in November 2017. He died on 18 November 2017, aged 64, after suffering from dementia.
Born in Glasgow in 1953, Young formed AC/DC in Sydney in 1973 with his younger brother Angus. As rhythm guitarist, backing vocalist and songwriter, he supplied the tight, driving foundation beneath Angus Young’s lead guitar. His playing was less showy than his brother’s, but central to the band’s heavy, highly synchronized sound.
Young retired from performing in 2014 after his health deteriorated, and his nephew Stevie Young took his place on guitar. AC/DC’s 2014 album Rock or Bust was the first in the band’s history recorded without Malcolm, although the songs continued to credit both Young brothers. A common mix-up is confusing Malcolm with Bon Scott, AC/DC’s former singer, who died in 1980. Malcolm’s death also came only weeks after that of his older brother George Young, an important producer and former Easybeats member.
