Brighton & Hove Albion’s UEFA Conference League qualification match affected the scheduling of Brighton versus Aston Villa on the 2026–27 Premier League opening weekend.
Brighton were due to participate in a Conference League qualification play-off on the preceding Thursday. As a result, their Premier League match with Aston Villa was scheduled for Sunday 23 August 2026 at 14:00 BST.
That Sunday time slot was shared with Manchester City versus Bournemouth. Newcastle United versus Liverpool followed at 16:30, while the round concluded on Monday with Fulham versus Chelsea.
The scheduling illustrated how European competition can influence domestic fixture times. Brighton were one of nine Premier League clubs participating in UEFA competitions during the season, so the league designed the calendar to reduce clashes where possible.
