Which club won the Premier League in 2015–16?
Answer
Leicester City
Answer
Leicester City
Leicester City won the Premier League in 2015–16.
The title was Leicester’s first English top-flight championship and came just one season after the club had narrowly avoided relegation. Italian manager Claudio Ranieri guided a compact, hard-working side featuring Jamie Vardy, Riyad Mahrez, N’Golo Kanté, Wes Morgan and Kasper Schmeichel.
Leicester were widely regarded as outsiders before the season, with bookmakers offering odds of around 5,000–1. They moved to the top of the table in January and stayed there for the rest of the campaign. Their title was confirmed on 2 May 2016 when Tottenham Hotspur drew 2–2 with Chelsea, leaving Leicester two matches clear at the summit.
A common mix-up is to remember Arsenal or Tottenham as the main challengers and accidentally name one of them. Tottenham finished third, Arsenal second, while Leicester ended with 81 points after 23 wins, 12 draws and only three defeats. The triumph made Leicester the sixth different Premier League champion.
