Which club won the first Premier League title in 1992–93?

The story behind the answer

Manchester United won the first Premier League title in the 1992–93 season.

The inaugural Premier League campaign began on August 15, 1992, with 22 clubs competing in the newly reorganized top division. Manchester United, managed by Sir Alex Ferguson, finished first with 84 points, 10 points ahead of Aston Villa.

The title ended United’s 26-year wait for an English top-flight championship. Their decisive run included a famous 2–1 comeback victory over Sheffield Wednesday, when Steve Bruce scored twice, including a stoppage-time winner.

Leeds United were the defending champions from the previous First Division season, which is why they are sometimes confused with the first Premier League winners. United’s success also began a long period of dominance: Ferguson eventually led the club to 13 Premier League titles.
