Which club won the 2016-17 Premier League title under Antonio Conte?

The story behind the answer

Chelsea won the 2016–17 Premier League title under manager Antonio Conte.

Chelsea secured the championship with a 1–0 away victory over West Bromwich Albion on 12 May 2017, with two matches still to play. It was Conte’s first season in English football and Chelsea’s fifth Premier League title. Tottenham Hotspur finished second after mounting the closest challenge.

The season changed direction when Conte switched Chelsea to a 3–4–3 formation after an early 3–0 defeat by Arsenal. Chelsea then produced a long winning run, including 13 consecutive league victories, and built a decisive lead at the top of the table. Diego Costa led the attack, while Eden Hazard, N’Golo Kanté and César Azpilicueta were key contributors.

Chelsea finished with 93 points and set a club record of 30 league wins. They lost the FA Cup final to Arsenal later that month, so the Premier League was their major trophy of the campaign. This title should not be confused with Chelsea’s 2014–15 championship, won under José Mourinho.
