Which club won the 1998-99 Premier League as part of a treble?
Answer
Manchester United
Answer
Manchester United
Manchester United won the 1998–99 Premier League as part of a historic treble.
Under manager Alex Ferguson, United won the league, the FA Cup and the UEFA Champions League in the same season. They became the first English club to complete that combination, making the campaign one of the defining achievements in English football history.
The league race was close. Arsenal and Chelsea remained serious challengers, but United finished first after losing only three league matches. Their decisive final league fixture was a 2–1 win over Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford on 16 May 1999.
The treble was sealed in dramatic fashion. United defeated Newcastle United in the FA Cup final, then scored twice in stoppage time to beat Bayern Munich 2–1 in the Champions League final. A common confusion is to credit the treble to another Manchester side: Manchester City matched the achievement in 2022–23, 24 years later.
