Arsenal were the defending champions at the start of the 2026–27 Premier League season.
Arsenal began their title defence at home to Coventry City on Friday 21 August 2026. Their opening fixture was placed at the Emirates Stadium, giving the champions a home start.
The title was Arsenal’s first Premier League championship since 2004, ending a 22-year wait for the club. Their previous Premier League title had come during the famous unbeaten 2003–04 campaign.
The 2026–27 season therefore began with Arsenal attempting to retain the trophy. Coventry provided the opposition in the opening match after returning to the top flight following a 25-year absence.
