Which club was scheduled to face Aston Villa in the 2026–27 Premier League opening round?
Answer
Brighton & Hove Albion
Brighton & Hove Albion were scheduled to face Aston Villa in the 2026–27 Premier League opening round.
The match was arranged for Sunday 23 August 2026 at 14:00 BST, with Brighton listed as the home team. It was one of two simultaneous Sunday afternoon fixtures in the first match round.
The Premier League explained that the match was placed at that time because Brighton were participating in the UEFA Conference League qualification play-offs on the preceding Thursday. The scheduling decision helped accommodate the club’s European commitments while keeping the opening round in place.
Brighton’s home ground is the American Express Stadium, commonly known as the Amex, in Falmer. Aston Villa play at Villa Park in Birmingham. The fixture is easy to confuse with Manchester City versus Bournemouth because both games shared the same Sunday kick-off time.
