Bournemouth was leading at half-time before Manchester City’s comeback in the 2026–27 Premier League opener.
Bournemouth went into the interval 1–0 ahead at the Etihad Stadium after Marcus Tavernier scored in the first half. Manchester City had to wait until the closing stages to turn the match around.
Marc Guéhi equalised in the 85th minute, and Joško Gvardiol scored the winner in stoppage time. City therefore completed a 2–1 victory despite trailing for most of the match.
The match was also the first Premier League game of Enzo Maresca’s Manchester City tenure. Bournemouth were managed by Marco Rose, who nearly marked his own league debut with an away win. The comeback is distinct from Newcastle’s 2–2 draw with Liverpool, another opening-weekend match that featured a late goal.
