Brighton & Hove Albion were scheduled to play Aston Villa on Sunday in the 2026–27 Premier League opening weekend.
The fixture was set for Sunday, 23 August 2026, at 14:00 BST. It was arranged at the same kickoff time as Manchester City versus AFC Bournemouth, giving Sunday an early pair of simultaneous Premier League matches.
The Premier League noted that Brighton’s participation in the UEFA Conference League qualification play-offs on the preceding Thursday influenced the scheduling. European commitments can affect domestic kickoff times because clubs need appropriate recovery and travel periods.
The fixture was not a London derby or a match involving one of the newly promoted clubs. Brighton and Aston Villa were both among the established top-flight teams in the 2026–27 competition, while the Sunday programme also included Newcastle versus Liverpool.
