Manchester City scored twice in the closing stages to beat AFC Bournemouth 2–1 in the 2026–27 Premier League opening weekend.
The match was played at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday, 23 August 2026. Bournemouth led for much of the contest, but Manchester City turned the game around late and secured a 2–1 victory.
Marcus Tavernier equalised in the 84th minute before Joško Gvardiol scored the winning goal in the second minute of stoppage time. The comeback marked the beginning of Enzo Maresca’s Manchester City reign after Pep Guardiola stepped down.
Rayan Cherki, introduced from the bench, supplied two assists in the comeback. The result therefore combined a managerial debut, a late turnaround, and a decisive stoppage-time goal, making it one of the most dramatic matches of the opening weekend.
