Arsenal scored the opening goal of the 2026–27 Premier League season.
Arsenal opened the campaign by hosting Coventry City at the Emirates Stadium on Friday, 21 August 2026. The match was the first fixture of the season, and Arsenal went on to win 3–0.
Because Arsenal were the defending champions, their opening fixture attracted particular attention. Coventry were newly promoted, creating a meeting between the previous Premier League champions and the newly promoted Championship winners.
The opening goal is distinct from the first goal scored on Saturday, when Hull City began their 2–0 victory over Manchester United. It is also different from the first goal in Sunday’s Newcastle–Liverpool match, which was scored by Anthony Elanga for Newcastle. Arsenal’s clean-sheet victory made them one of several early winners in the opening round.
