Which club scored four goals in the first 31 minutes against Aston Villa in the 2026–27 Premier League opener?

The story behind the answer

Brighton & Hove Albion scored four goals in the first 31 minutes against Aston Villa in the 2026–27 Premier League opener.

Brighton won the Sunday 23 August match 4–0 at the Amex Stadium. The early barrage included two goals from Jack Hinshelwood, scored within 79 seconds, plus a goal from Maxim De Cuyper and an own goal by Aston Villa defender Victor Lindelöf.

Villa were reduced to ten players before half-time when João Gomes was sent off. Brighton did not add to its total after the interval, but the four-goal first half was still one of the weekend’s defining performances.

The achievement also had historical context. Brighton became only the fourth club to score four first-half goals on Matchweek 1, following Bolton Wanderers in 2001, Manchester United in 2007 and Liverpool in 2020. Chelsea’s 6–0 win in 2010 remained the biggest opening-weekend victory.
