Hull City recorded its first top-flight league win over Manchester United in the 2026–27 Premier League opener.
Hull defeated Manchester United 2–0 at the MKM Stadium on Saturday, 22 August 2026. The victory was especially notable because it was Hull’s first league win over United since 1974, when both clubs competed in the old Second Division.
Hull had returned to the Premier League after a nine-year absence. Their winning start therefore combined a historic opponent record with a successful return to England’s top division. United, managed by Michael Carrick, began the season with a surprise defeat.
The match was also the first Saturday lunchtime fixture of the campaign. Hull’s goals came from Semi Ajayi and Nobel Mendy, both before half-time, while United failed to score.
