Arsenal opened the 2026–27 Premier League season at the Emirates Stadium.
The defending champions hosted newly promoted Coventry City in the first match of the campaign on Friday 21 August 2026. Arsenal entered the fixture as the previous season’s title winners, while Coventry were returning to the top flight after a 25-year absence.
The match gave Arsenal an immediate opportunity to begin their title defence in front of their home supporters. They won 3–0, creating a strong opening result and placing them near the top of the early table.
The Emirates Stadium is Arsenal’s home ground in Holloway, north London. It replaced Highbury as the club’s home in 2006. Although Coventry were the visiting team, the venue and opening-day home side were both Arsenal, a distinction that can be missed when the fixture is described simply as the season opener.
