Which club lost 9-0 at home to Leicester City in the Premier League in October 2019?

The story behind the answer

Southampton lost 9–0 at home to Leicester City in the Premier League on 25 October 2019.

The match at St Mary’s Stadium became one of the most extraordinary results in Premier League history. Leicester scored six times before half-time, with Ayoze Pérez and Jamie Vardy each completing a hat-trick. James Maddison, Youri Tielemans and Ben Chilwell also scored, while Southampton played much of the match with ten men after Ryan Bertrand was sent off in the first half.

Leicester’s victory equalled the Premier League’s record winning margin of nine goals. It also matched Manchester United’s 9–0 home win over Ipswich Town in 1995, although Leicester’s result was the competition’s biggest away victory at the time.

The defeat was especially painful for Southampton because it was their heaviest home loss in the league. Leicester, managed by Brendan Rodgers, moved up to second place after the result and began a season in which they eventually finished fifth.
