Which club led the 2026–27 Premier League table after Matchweek 1?

The story behind the answer

Brighton & Hove Albion led the 2026–27 Premier League table after Matchweek 1.

Brighton opened the season with a 4–0 home victory over Aston Villa on Sunday 23 August 2026. That gave them three points and a goal difference of plus four, the best record in the division after the first round.

Arsenal, Brentford and Everton also won their opening matches, but each had a smaller positive goal difference. Brighton therefore occupied first place on goal difference rather than points alone.

Early-season tables can be misleading because every club has played only once. Brighton’s position represented the standings after Matchweek 1, not a prediction of the final title race.
