Which club is known as 'The Magpies'?

The story behind the answer

Newcastle United is the football club known as “The Magpies.”

The nickname comes from Newcastle’s traditional black-and-white striped home shirts, which resemble the plumage of a magpie. Newcastle United, based in Newcastle upon Tyne in northeast England, adopted those colors in the late 19th century and has been associated with the nickname ever since.

The club plays its home matches at St James’ Park and is one of the best-known teams in English football. “The Magpies” is distinct from nicknames such as Tottenham Hotspur’s “Spurs” or West Ham United’s “the Hammers.” Newcastle supporters are also commonly called the Toon Army, using the local pronunciation of “town.”
