Which club is based at Anfield?

The story behind the answer

Liverpool is the club based at Anfield.

Anfield is a football stadium in the Anfield district of Liverpool, England, and has been Liverpool Football Club’s home since the club was formed in 1892. The ground is associated with Liverpool’s red colours, European nights and the famous “You’ll Never Walk Alone” anthem.

The stadium was originally occupied by Everton. Everton played there from 1884 until 1892, when a dispute over rent and ownership led the club to move across the city to Goodison Park. Liverpool F.C. was then established to play at Anfield, creating the connection that continues today.

Anfield’s best-known stands include the Kop, the Main Stand, the Sir Kenny Dalglish Stand and the Anfield Road Stand. Its capacity has expanded through redevelopment, reaching more than 60,000. The most common mix-up is Everton: the two clubs share the city and have a famous rivalry, but Everton’s home is Goodison Park, not Anfield. Manchester City and Chelsea play in Manchester and London respectively.
