Which club finished top of the table after the 2026–27 Premier League opening Match Round?

Brighton & Hove Albion finished top of the table after the 2026–27 Premier League opening Match Round.

Brighton led the early standings after beating Aston Villa 4–0 on Sunday 23 August 2026. Their three points were matched by several other winners, so goal difference separated Brighton from the rest.

Brighton’s plus-four goal difference placed them above Arsenal and Brentford, who each had plus-three after 3–0 victories. Everton, Hull City and several other teams also won, but their margins were smaller.

The first-round table was provisional, of course, because every club had played only once. Brighton’s position nevertheless highlighted the importance of goal difference in a league where teams receive three points for a win and one for a draw. The club’s strong opening also made its 4–0 result the round’s biggest victory.
