Which city is the main setting of 2 Fast 2 Furious?

The story behind the answer

Miami is the main setting of 2 Fast 2 Furious.

Released in 2003, 2 Fast 2 Furious moves the story from the Los Angeles setting of the first film to Miami, Florida. Paul Walker returns as Brian O’Conner, who teams up with his childhood friend Roman Pearce to work with U.S. Customs against drug lord Carter Verone.

The Miami setting gives the film a different visual identity, with bright coastal locations, high-performance cars, and a large emphasis on street racing. Tyrese Gibson made his franchise debut as Roman, while Chris “Ludacris” Bridges appeared as Tej Parker. Eva Mendes played undercover agent Monica Fuentes.

Miami is not the primary setting of every later film. Tokyo dominates Tokyo Drift, Rio de Janeiro is central to Fast Five, and Los Angeles remains important throughout the series. The title’s “2” also distinguishes this sequel from The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift, which was released third.
