Which city is Palau's capital?
Answer
Ngerulmud
Answer
Ngerulmud
Palau’s capital is Ngerulmud. It is the country’s seat of government in Melekeok State, on Babeldaob, Palau’s largest island.
Ngerulmud replaced Koror as the capital in October 2006. Palau’s 1979 Constitution called for a permanent capital on Babeldaob, and the national Capitol complex eventually opened in 2006. The complex contains the legislative, executive, and judicial buildings around a central plaza.
A common mix-up is Melekeok, which is both the state containing Ngerulmud and the name of a nearby village. Koror remains Palau’s largest city and its main commercial and population center, but it is no longer the national capital. Ngerulmud is also notable for having little or no permanent population beyond government activity. Its name is associated with a Palauan phrase referring to a place of fermented angelfish.
