Sweden’s Turning Torso skyscraper is located in Malmö.
The tower stands in the Western Harbour district of Malmö, near the Öresund Strait. Designed by Spanish architect and engineer Santiago Calatrava, it was completed in 2005. Its sculptural form appears to twist 90 degrees from the base to the top, giving the building its name.
Turning Torso was inspired by one of Calatrava’s own sculptures, a white marble piece depicting a twisting human body. The building became a prominent landmark on Malmö’s skyline and is widely described as Scandinavia’s first twisted skyscraper. It contains residential apartments and offices. Malmö is on Sweden’s southern coast, directly across the Öresund from Copenhagen, Denmark, and the two cities are linked by the Öresund Bridge.
