Which city is Eswatini's legislative capital?

The story behind the answer

Which city is Eswatini’s legislative capital? The answer is Lobamba.

Lobamba is Eswatini’s legislative and traditional capital, while Mbabane serves as the executive capital. The two settlements are about 16 kilometres apart in the Hhoho region, in and around the Ezulwini Valley. This divided-capital arrangement is why quiz questions about Eswatini can seem to have two possible answers.

Lobamba hosts the Parliament of Eswatini, including the Senate and House of Assembly. It is also a major royal and cultural centre, containing the Ludzidzini Royal Village, associated with the Queen Mother, and important national ceremonial sites. Somhlolo National Stadium is another prominent landmark.

The settlement’s role predates modern constitutional government. Eswatini’s monarchy and national traditions remain closely connected with Lobamba, and major ceremonies such as Incwala and Umhlanga are held in the area. Mbabane, by contrast, is the main administrative and executive centre. Manzini is the country’s largest commercial city, but it is not a national capital.
