Which city hosted the 1964 Summer Paralympic Games, the second official Summer Paralympics?

The story behind the answer

Tokyo hosted the 1964 Summer Paralympic Games, the second official Summer Paralympics.

The Games took place in Japan from 3 to 12 November 1964, shortly after the 1964 Olympic Games in Tokyo. They were originally called the 13th International Stoke Mandeville Games, reflecting the movement’s roots in rehabilitation sport in Britain.

Tokyo 1964 was important because it expanded the international reach of disability sport beyond the 1960 Games in Rome. Athletes from 21 nations competed, and the programme included sports such as athletics, swimming, wheelchair basketball and wheelchair fencing.

A common mix-up is to confuse Tokyo 1964 with the 1964 Olympics, which were held in October. The Paralympic competition followed in November and was staged in several venues used by the Olympics.
