Which city hosted Beyoncé’s first headlining Coachella performance in 2018?

The story behind the answer

Indio, California, hosted Beyoncé’s first headlining Coachella performance in 2018.

The Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival takes place at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, in Riverside County. Beyoncé headlined the festival on April 14 and April 21, 2018, after postponing her 2017 appearance because she was pregnant with twins.

Her performance featured a large marching-band-inspired production, extensive choreography, Destiny’s Child reunions, and guest appearances by Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams. The set became widely known as “Beychella” and was praised for its musical and cultural scale.

Beyoncé was the first Black woman to headline Coachella. The performance was later released as the live album Homecoming: The Live Album and documented in the Netflix film Homecoming: A Film by Beyoncé. Indio is sometimes confused with Palm Springs because both cities are associated with the Coachella Valley, but the festival site is in Indio.
