Which city does Assassin's Creed Revelations primarily recreate?

The story behind the answer

Assassin's Creed Revelations primarily recreates Constantinople. The game is set in the early sixteenth century, when the city was the capital of the Ottoman Empire and a major center connecting Europe and Asia.

Ezio Auditore travels to Constantinople to search for keys linked to Altaïr's former headquarters in Masyaf. The city is divided into districts associated with locations such as Galata, Constantine, Bayezid, and Imperial. The story also returns to Altaïr through playable memory sequences, making the game a conclusion to Ezio's arc and a bridge to Altaïr's story.

Constantinople was officially renamed Istanbul in the twentieth century, but the historical setting is conventionally identified by its period name. The game therefore is not primarily set in Athens or Alexandria, despite the series' frequent use of Mediterranean locations.
