Which city became Myanmar's capital in 2005?

The story behind the answer

Which city became Myanmar's capital in 2005? Naypyidaw became Myanmar's capital in 2005.

The government officially moved Myanmar's administrative capital from Yangon to Naypyidaw on 6 November 2005. The new capital was built near Pyinmana in central Myanmar, and its name was publicly revealed during a military parade on 27 March 2006.

Naypyidaw was planned as a purpose-built administrative city rather than developing gradually like Yangon or Mandalay. It contains government ministries, the Presidential Palace, the national Parliament, and the Supreme Court. Its broad highways and unusually low-density districts have made it famous for seeming oversized and quiet.

The government cited central location and room for expansion as reasons for the move. Observers have also linked the location to military strategy and the desire for a more defensible administrative center. Yangon remains Myanmar's largest and best-known city, but it is no longer the national capital.
