Which national capital hosts NATO's headquarters?
Answer
Brussels
Answer
Brussels
The national capital that hosts NATO’s headquarters is Brussels, Belgium.
NATO, the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, has been headquartered in Brussels since 1967. Its headquarters is in Haren, within the Brussels-Capital Region, near Boulevard Léopold III. The complex is the alliance’s political and administrative centre, where national delegations, civilian officials, military representatives, and partner-country missions work together.
Brussels was not NATO’s first headquarters. After the alliance was founded in 1949, its headquarters was initially in London and later moved to Paris. Belgium’s central position among Western European allies, along with Brussels’s growing role as an international diplomatic city, helped make it a practical long-term base.
The headquarters is often confused with the European Union’s institutions, many of which are also located in Brussels. They are separate organizations, although NATO and the EU cooperate closely. NATO’s current headquarters complex was inaugurated in 2017, replacing an earlier site across the road.
