Which cinematographer won at the 2026 Critics Choice Awards for Train Dreams?
Answer
Adolpho Veloso
Adolpho Veloso won Best Cinematography at the 2026 Critics Choice Awards for Train Dreams.
Train Dreams is a historical drama based on Denis Johnson’s novella of the same name. Its story follows Robert Grainier, a railroad worker in the American Northwest, across decades of personal and social change. Veloso’s cinematography helped shape the film’s expansive landscapes and period atmosphere.
Cinematography honors the visual design and photographic execution of a film, including composition, lighting, camera movement, and the creation of a consistent visual world. It is distinct from Best Production Design, which went to Tamara Deverell and Shane Vieau for Frankenstein.
Veloso won over cinematographers including Claudio Miranda for F1, Dan Laustsen for Frankenstein, Łukasz Żal for Hamnet, Michael Bauman for One Battle After Another, and Autumn Durald Arkapaw for Sinners.
