Which chipmunk has a red nose?
Answer
Dale
Answer
Dale
The chipmunk with a red nose is Dale.
Dale is one half of Disney’s Chip ’n’ Dale duo, alongside Chip. The easiest visual distinction is that Dale has a large dark-red nose and a noticeable gap between his front teeth, while Chip has a smaller black nose and two centered protruding teeth. Dale also typically has a tuft of tousled hair, contrasting with Chip’s smoother head.
The pair first appeared without names in the 1943 Pluto short Private Pluto. They became recognizable rivals of Donald Duck in later cartoons, and the 1947 short Chip an’ Dale was the first to use their names and clearly distinguish their appearances and personalities. Chip is generally the serious, logical planner; Dale is more impulsive, playful, and easily distracted.
Fans often remember the nose difference with a simple association: Chip’s black nose resembles a chocolate chip, leaving Dale as the red-nosed chipmunk. The duo later starred in the television series Chip ’n Dale: Rescue Rangers, which gave them a detective-agency setting and a larger supporting cast.
