Which Mickey Mouse short won an Academy Award?
Answer
Lend a Paw
Answer
Lend a Paw
The Mickey Mouse short that won an Academy Award was Lend a Paw.
Released in 1941, Lend a Paw won the Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film at the 14th Academy Awards in 1942. It remains the only Mickey Mouse short to win that competitive Oscar.
The film follows Pluto after he rescues a kitten from a drifting ice floe. Mickey adopts the kitten, and Pluto becomes jealous of the attention it receives. Pluto’s conscience is represented by an angel and a devil, who argue over whether he should help or harm the new arrival.
Lend a Paw was directed by Clyde Geronimi and produced in Technicolor. Its story largely reworks the 1933 short Mickey’s Pal Pluto, but the Oscar-winning version adds the memorable angel-and-devil conflict. Other Mickey films, including The Pointer and Mickey’s Orphans, received nominations, which can lead to the mistaken impression that several Mickey shorts won.
