Which Chinese peninsula contains Qingdao and projects eastward between the Yellow Sea and Bohai Sea?

The story behind the answer

The Shandong Peninsula is the Chinese peninsula containing Qingdao and projecting eastward between the Yellow Sea and Bohai Sea.

It forms the eastern part of Shandong Province. Its northern coast faces the Bohai Sea, while its eastern and southern coasts face the Yellow Sea. The peninsula’s location made it a major maritime gateway between northern China, Korea, and Japan.

Qingdao is a major port city known internationally for its brewing tradition and for hosting the 2008 Olympic sailing events. Weihai and Yantai are other important coastal cities on the peninsula.

The Shandong Peninsula is distinct from the Liaodong Peninsula to the north. The Bohai Strait separates them, and the two peninsulas frame the entrance to the Bohai Sea. The name Shandong means “east of the mountains,” referring historically to the Taihang Mountains.
