Palmer created the fastest goal of the match at Craven Cottage, supplying João Pedro for Chelsea’s opening strike just 31 seconds after kick-off. The early goal immediately shaped a lively west London derby between Fulham and Chelsea.
Fulham equalised through Josh King after a mistake by Chelsea goalkeeper Robert Sánchez, but Chelsea restored their lead before half-time when Morgan Rogers scored on his competitive debut. Palmer then scored himself early in the second half, combining with João Pedro to make it 3–1.
Gonzalo García reduced Fulham’s deficit on his Premier League debut, yet Chelsea held on for a 3–2 victory. The result gave Xabi Alonso a winning start as Chelsea manager, while Álvaro Arbeloa’s first top-flight match in charge of Fulham ended in defeat.
