Which Chelsea forward won the 2006-07 Premier League Golden Boot with 20 goals?

The story behind the answer

Didier Drogba won the 2006–07 Premier League Golden Boot with 20 goals for Chelsea.

The Ivorian striker became Chelsea’s first Golden Boot winner after a season in which he combined power, movement and clinical finishing. His total came from 36 league appearances, helping Chelsea finish second behind Manchester United and retain the League Cup and FA Cup.

Drogba’s 20 goals put him ahead of Manchester United’s Cristiano Ronaldo, who scored 17 league goals that season. This is a frequent source of confusion because Ronaldo won the Golden Boot the following season, in 2007–08, with 31 goals. Nicolas Anelka also later won the award for Chelsea, scoring 19 in 2008–09.

Drogba was not a one-season phenomenon. He won another Premier League Golden Boot in 2009–10, scoring 29 goals, and finished his Chelsea career as one of the club’s defining forwards. His 2006–07 award remains the answer to this particular 20-goal question.
