Which character is Zuko's uncle and mentor?

Zuko’s uncle and mentor is Iroh. A retired Fire Nation general and former heir to the throne, Iroh is the elder brother of Fire Lord Ozai and the paternal uncle of Zuko and Azula.

Iroh accompanies the exiled Zuko during his search for Avatar Aang, officially helping him restore his honor by capturing the Avatar. In practice, Iroh acts as Zuko’s guide, teaching him patience, self-knowledge, and responsibility. His influence becomes central to Zuko’s eventual rejection of his father’s imperial ambitions and his decision to help end the war.

Known as the Dragon of the West, Iroh is also a formidable firebender and strategist. He teaches Zuko to redirect lightning by adapting principles associated with waterbending. His love of tea, Pai Sho, music, and peaceful conversation often disguises his military experience. Ozai is Zuko’s father, not his mentor; Bumi rules Omashu, and Zhao is an antagonist.
