Which character is a clumsy, good-natured dog?

The story behind the answer

Which character is a clumsy, good-natured dog? Goofy.

Goofy is a tall, anthropomorphic dog created by Walt Disney and his studio. He is usually portrayed as kind-hearted, accident-prone, absent-minded and comically clumsy, making him one of Mickey Mouse’s closest friends. Unlike Pluto, who is Mickey’s ordinary pet dog, Goofy speaks, wears clothes and behaves like a person.

The character first appeared in the 1932 short Mickey’s Revue, initially under the name Dippy Dawg. He was refined into the familiar Goofy persona during later cartoons, with animator Art Babbitt helping develop his loose-limbed movements and expressive physical comedy. Voice actor Pinto Colvig supplied Goofy’s famous laugh and voice for much of the classic era.

Goofy’s personality is not always limited to foolishness. In some stories he is surprisingly inventive or intuitive, although his well-meaning mistakes remain central to the character. He later starred in solo “How to” cartoons, television series such as Goof Troop, and films including A Goofy Movie. His son, Max Goof, became a major character in those later stories.
