Tom Hardy plays Bane in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises.
Bane is the primary physical and strategic antagonist of the 2012 film. Hardy portrays him as a masked revolutionary who seizes control of Gotham City and challenges Bruce Wayne after Batman has been absent for years. The character’s distinctive voice and mask became major discussion points surrounding the movie.
The Dark Knight Rises concludes Nolan’s Batman trilogy, following Batman Begins and The Dark Knight. The cast also includes Christian Bale as Bruce Wayne, Anne Hathaway as Selina Kyle, Joseph Gordon-Levitt as John Blake, and Michael Caine as Alfred.
Bane is sometimes confused with Ra’s al Ghul or the Scarecrow because all three are important villains in Nolan’s trilogy. Ra’s al Ghul is played by Liam Neeson in Batman Begins, while Cillian Murphy plays the Scarecrow. Hardy’s Bane is specific to the concluding film.
