Which chapters of Genesis contain the main Noah’s Ark narrative?
Answer
Genesis 6–9
Answer
Genesis 6–9
The main Noah’s Ark narrative appears in Genesis chapters 6 through 9. These chapters describe the world’s corruption, the command to build the ark, the Flood, the birds’ flights, Noah’s exit, and the covenant that follows.
Genesis 6 introduces Noah’s favor with God and gives the ark’s construction instructions, including its dimensions, decks, rooms, and covering. Genesis 7 recounts the entry into the ark and the rising floodwaters. Genesis 8 follows the recession of the waters and the return to dry land. Genesis 9 describes the covenant with Noah and the rainbow sign.
The story is part of the early chapters of Genesis, before the narratives of Abraham and the patriarchs. It should not be confused with the separate account of the Tower of Babel in Genesis 11.
Some editions divide the material into paragraphs and sections differently, but the chapter range remains Genesis 6–9. This is the standard reference range for the biblical Ark account.
