Channel 4 first broadcast expanded live Glastonbury television coverage in 1994.
The channel's programme, 4 Goes to Glastonbury, brought substantially broader televised coverage to viewers than earlier festival broadcasts. It concentrated on the two main music stages while also introducing audiences unfamiliar with Glastonbury to the scale and character of the event.
The timing mattered because the 1994 festival included a temporary main stage after the Pyramid Stage burned down shortly before the event. Channel 4 also televised the festival in 1995, helping Glastonbury reach a much larger national audience during a period of rapid expansion.
A common mix-up is BBC Two: the BBC later became Glastonbury's main television partner, taking over coverage from Channel 4 in 1997. MTV and ITV were not the channel responsible for this landmark expansion in 1994.
