Which Cameroon player became the oldest World Cup goalscorer in 1994?
Answer
Roger Milla
Answer
Roger Milla
Roger Milla became the oldest World Cup goalscorer when he scored for Cameroon against Russia at the 1994 FIFA World Cup.
Milla was 42 years old during the tournament, having returned to the national team after starring at the 1990 World Cup. His goal came in Cameroon’s final group match, a 6–1 defeat to Russia on 28 June 1994. Although Cameroon exited in the group stage, Milla’s strike created one of the tournament’s enduring records.
The goal was especially memorable because the same match featured another remarkable record: Russia’s Oleg Salenko scored five times. Milla had originally set the oldest-goalscorer mark at the 1990 World Cup, but his own 1994 performance extended it. He is sometimes confused with the tournament’s oldest player overall, a separate record later associated with Faryd Mondragón and Essam El-Hadary.
