Jack Hinshelwood scored twice for Brighton in their 4–0 win over Aston Villa in 2026–27 Premier League Matchweek 1.
Hinshelwood scored both goals within 79 seconds as Brighton raced into a four-goal lead during the first half. His double came after he had finished the previous season strongly, scoring three times in Brighton’s final five matches of 2025–26.
The other Brighton goal came from Maxim De Cuyper, while Aston Villa defender Victor Lindelöf scored an own goal. Brighton’s rapid start made the match the largest home victory of the opening round.
The performance also placed Hinshelwood at the centre of Brighton’s opening-day story. The result is sometimes remembered mainly for Villa’s red card, but the two-goal contribution came from Brighton’s young midfielder. Identifying the scorer requires distinguishing him from De Cuyper, the other Brighton goalscorer, and Gomes, the dismissed Villa player.
