Which Brighton player scored twice in Brighton’s 4–0 win over Aston Villa on the 2026–27 Premier League opening weekend?

The story behind the answer

Jack Hinshelwood scored twice in Brighton’s 4–0 win over Aston Villa on the 2026–27 Premier League opening weekend.

Hinshelwood scored both goals in a remarkable 79-second spell as Brighton established a commanding lead. His double formed part of four Brighton goals scored during the first 31 minutes at the Amex Stadium.

The other Brighton goal scorers were Maxim De Cuyper and Aston Villa defender Victor Lindelöf, who scored an own goal. Villa’s difficult afternoon became worse when João Gomes was sent off shortly before half-time, leaving the visitors with ten players.

Hinshelwood had also scored three times during the final five matches of Brighton’s previous campaign. His opening-weekend performance therefore continued a productive run rather than appearing entirely out of nowhere. Brighton’s victory gave them a goal difference of plus four after Matchweek 1.
