Which Brighton player scored twice against Aston Villa in the 2026–27 Premier League opener?
Answer
Jack Hinshelwood
Jack Hinshelwood scored twice for Brighton against Aston Villa in the 2026–27 Premier League opener.
Brighton & Hove Albion defeated Aston Villa 4–0 on Sunday 23 August 2026. Hinshelwood scored two goals within 79 seconds as Brighton raced into a commanding lead during the first half.
The other Brighton goals came from Maxim De Cuyper and an own goal by Aston Villa defender Victor Lindelöf. Villa also lost João Gomes to a first-half red card, leaving them with ten players before the interval.
Brighton’s victory was the largest home win of the opening weekend. It was also one of only a small number of Premier League Matchweek 1 performances in which a team scored four times before half-time. Hinshelwood had already finished the previous season strongly, making his two-goal start especially notable.
