Brentford defeated Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday 22 August 2026. Lewis-Potter scored in the 12th minute after receiving the final pass from new club-record signing Mamadou Sangare.

Vitaly Janelt made it 2–0 before half-time, and Michael Kayode completed the scoring after the interval. Brentford’s performance gave them a commanding opening-day victory over their London rivals.

The result was also notable for Brentford’s attacking efficiency and for a missed penalty by Igor Thiago. Had that penalty gone in, Brentford would have had an even larger margin and could have finished the day top of the table on goal difference.
