Which book first introduced Tigger in A. A. Milne’s Winnie-the-Pooh series?

The story behind the answer

The House at Pooh Corner first introduced Tigger in A. A. Milne’s Winnie-the-Pooh series.

Published in 1928, The House at Pooh Corner was Milne’s second and final story collection about Pooh and his world. Tigger arrives in Chapter II, appearing at Pooh’s doorstep in the middle of the night and announcing himself with a stylised roar.

In the story, Tigger claims to like everything, but he discovers that honey and several other foods do not suit him. Kanga and Roo eventually help him find that he likes extract of malt. Tigger then becomes part of the wider group living in the Forest.

Tigger is sometimes mistaken for a character created by Disney because his animated appearances became extremely popular. However, he was already present in Milne’s 1928 book and was based on one of Christopher Robin Milne’s stuffed toys. Disney later gave him a distinctive bouncy musical personality.
