In Tomorrow Never Dies, James Bond drives a BMW 750iL during the car chase in a parking garage.
The scene takes place in a multistorey car park in Saigon, where Bond and Wai Lin try to escape Elliot Carver’s henchmen. Bond controls the armoured sedan from the back seat while Wai Lin operates the steering wheel, creating one of the film’s most memorable vehicle sequences.
The BMW is a long-wheelbase version of the 7 Series luxury sedan. Unlike Bond’s better-known Aston Martin cars, the 750iL is not equipped with conventional driver-operated gadgets in this sequence; its unusual feature is the remote-control system that lets Bond manoeuvre it from the rear.
The film was released in 1997 and marked Pierce Brosnan’s second appearance as 007. A common mix-up is to identify the car as a BMW 750i, but the film’s specific model is the 750iL.
