Which bird did Noah send after the dove returned without finding a resting place?

The story behind the answer

Noah sent the dove again after it first returned without finding a resting place.

Genesis 8:8–12 describes three releases of the dove. On the first attempt, Noah sent it to see whether the waters had receded from the ground, but it returned because it found nowhere to rest. Noah waited seven days and sent the dove again; this time it came back with an olive leaf.

After waiting another seven days, Noah released the dove a third time, and it did not return. The repeated releases form a simple sequence of observations: no resting place, an olive leaf, and then no return. This sequence is different from the earlier release of the raven in Genesis 8:7.

Retellings often compress the events into a single dove flight. The biblical account is more specific, recording repeated tests separated by seven-day intervals.
